Blessed Full Mead Moon
Blessed Full Mead Moon

If you celebrate this moon and by whatever name you call it (for us it is the Mead Moon) may your observance be filled with joy and enlightenment. The actual full moon will be on July 1st at 9:20pm our local time but we will be celebrating it tonight with our initiated clergy only at an undisclosed location.

Fanatics, extremism, fundamentalism!  Extremism comes in many forms, not just religious, but political ideologies or philosophies about life that fall outside of the spiritual realm even. For example, environmental issues, economic policies, manufacturing processes. People are naturally competitive so you see rivalries over things like, who makes the better vehicles, Ford or Chevy? Apple vs. PC, Conservative vs. Liberal. Take your pick. It’s healthy to have your own biases, your own likes and dislikes. Where we run into trouble is when we decide that our truth is the ultimate truth and everyone else must see it our way. This is where healthy rivalries turn into ugly, bitter disputes, even violence. We should all caution ourselves to at least understand another person’s point of view in a non-vitriolic,  non-judgmental way. To honestly try to see their situation and why they might feel the way they do, even if we don’t agree with them. Condescending arguments in which we break down the other side and make them feel inferior or foolish for their choices only pour fuel on the fire but seldom win people over to your way of thinking. When discussing topics with one another in which we disagree, try to use the most tactful and diplomatic language possible and make it clear that you see their opinions as just as valid as your own even if yours and theirs are polar opposites.

The way to common ground is not via hurling insults at one another but in being able to negotiate and compromise with one another. If a compromise can’t be reached then be able to walk away from the discussion agreeing to disagree but holding no enmity toward one another. This is how we tolerate others in this world as population growth and technology push us closer and closer together. This is how we CoExist rather than leave a world torn apart by violence and hatred to the generations we are borrowing this earth from. Those who will follow us will thank us if we work to make a better world today. Otherwise, they will hold us accountable. How would you like to be remembered?

(Just an FYI, do I always follow this advice? Not always, but I try. We all need reminders once in awhile though. Myself included.)

This week there were, unfortunately, no submissions from the tribe for our newsletter. So, I went in search of something to share. I found this ponderous piece of artwork and prose called ‘Nothingness’ on Hortus Closus.

Art By Mugsy
Art By Mugsy

I come from the East,
I come from the West.

I am neither from the East
I am neither from the West.

I come with the wind,
I bear desolation,
I bear the hope.

I dance with the wind,
I dance in the sky

Like
a
Bubble
Of
Nothingness.

If anyone else has some original poetry, artwork, an essay or any other creative work they would like to share in the next or other future newsletters please let me know at templehp@templeofthestones.org. I’m always happy to show off the talents of our tribe!

Have A Blessed Midsummer!
Have A Blessed Midsummer!

Our sister coven, Mystic Willow Coven is hosting our tradition’s Litha / Midsummer ritual today at Arlington UU. It’s open to the public so why not come on down to 2001 California Lane, Arlington, TX 76015 around 3PM (ritual is expected to begin at around 5:30pm) and visit with us a bit? It’ll be a great opportunity to come and meet us in a relaxed, public setting.

Some interesting things have been happening in the news this week. Not only did a 21 year old man in Charleston South Carolina enter a church and kill 9 people but, closer to home, a similarly aged young man commented on a post by Houston Pagan Pride Day calling for vendors. In his comment he said that they would all be shot. The post was quickly reported to Facebook and to police. It could have simply been a case of internet bravado by someone who felt the anonymity of being online meant he could say literally anything he wanted. Maybe the young man was harmless. But maybe not. We never can be too careful about threats like these. There are some very deranged people in this world still. There always have been and probably always will be. Those of us who do care about the sanctity of life and the rights of our fellow human beings to live their lives as they see fit as long as they are not harming others, need to look out for one another.

That is why I say, we still need to have unity in our community. We need to be aware of those who hate and are willing to turn that hate into action against one group or another. Whether it is our own group or not. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable rights for us all. Speak out against bigotry, hate and disenfranchisement of others where ever you see if. Be tolerant of those who are doing no harm but be intolerant of intolerance. That’s my sermon for this week, I’ll pass around the collection plate later. 😉 Blessed Be Y’all!

Arachne Crowsinger (High Priestess of Mystic Willow Coven) shared the lyrics to the wonderful, sung quarter calls that she has done for us in rituals before and everyone seems to love. So, as this week’s contribution from the tribe, won’t you enjoy:

Spirits of the East, we’re calling you,
Spirits of the East, we’re calling you here,
Spirits of the East, we’re calling you here and now.
Spirits of the Air, bring us blessing fair.
Spirits of the Sky, teach us how to fly.
Spirits of the East, into our circle come.

Spirits of the South, we’re calling you,
Spirits of the South, we’re calling you here,
Spirits of the South, we’re calling you here and now.
Spirits of Fire, bring us our desire.
Spirits of the Flame, burn away the pain.
Spirits of the South, into our circle come.

Spirits of the West, we’re calling you,
Spirits of the West, we’re calling you here
Spirits of the West, we’re calling you here and now.
Spirits of the Ocean, deepen our devotion.
Spirits of the Sea, help our souls be free.
Spirits of the West, into our circle come.

Spirits of the North, we’re calling you,
Spirits of the North, we’re calling you here,
Spirits of the North, we’re calling you here and now.
Spirits of Land, help us understand.
Spirits of the Earth, lead us to rebirth.
Spirits of the North, into our circle come.

Welcome fellow seekers to this week’s edition of the weekly newsletter of Temple Of the Standing Stones. I am Cianaodh Óg, High Priest and fellow seeker of wisdom.

New Mead moon is coming this Tuesday, the 16th. We will be celebrating it tonight though at my house in Arlington. Preparing for this ritual has led me to doing a lot of thinking about mead, honey and other things associated with this moon. Our temple clergy decided at the last Esbat that, as we move the location of our gatherings around from one family’s home to another that the hosting household would be responsible for writing and (if they feel ready to do so) officiating the ritual. Our thinking there is that this will give us each an opportunity to add our own personal touches and work in some of the things we do in our solitary practice when not with the group. We’re very big on learning from one another and letting our diversity lead the way in building up our strengths while compensating for those areas where we have weaknesses. The whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts as the saying goes. I hope that all who attend will enjoy the ritual that I have prepared and that we each come away feeling connected and energized. Before ritual there will be a lesson on divination to make up for the one we tried to have a few months ago when some late seasonal ice storms were still lingering. Unfortuntely, I don’t think we will have the people on hand available to give demonstrations who came last time but never-the-less it should be a fun and interesting exercise.

Another thing we are starting to do, although it is going to be predominantly at the initiated gatherings (esbats) is have a pre-ritual walk through with the kids. We recognize the importance of giving our kids some hands on experience in ritual roles and etiquette and the kids have expressed that they want to be a part of the public gatherings. Today’s kids are our future and what better way to teach them about Pagan practices than to let them take part? Even if they choose another spiritual path in adulthood, they will, hopefully, be more in tune with our ways and more tolerant of those whose religious leanings are outside of the mainstream. That, to me, is a pretty bright future to look forward to. Less, fighting and more understanding among people of all faiths or philosophies. Anyway, although the plan is to do these at Esbats, this time we will also be doing one before our New Moon ritual tonight as kind of a practice run.

After ritual we will be having a Music and Dance session which we hope to make a regular thing after our New Moon and other open celebrations. If you’re planning to come along, please feel free to bring your drum or any instrument really if you have one. If not, no worries, we have extras. If dancing is your thing then hip scarves and other dance accouterments are likewise welcome. If you don’t do either but would like to learn, come give it a try. Or, lend your energy as the appreciative audience. Let’s raise some happy, feel good energy with our tribe!

Alas, once again this week I have not received any contributions from the tribe but ya know what? I did find some really nice, easy Mead recipes on Storm The Castle that I would like to give a try sometime. Check these out!

http://www.stormthecastle.com/mead/mead-recipes.htm

Maybe we can have a home made Mead tasting event around this time next year? Anyone want to give it a shot?

Merrily are ya met everyone and I hope you’ve had a wonderful week since our last newsletter. We’ve had several things going on with the temple and in the community lately. Our temple clergy grew by two new members this past Saturday and I would like to extend our congratulations and welcome to our newest brother and sister. We had a very productive esbat meeting covering new projects we plan to take on and better organization ideas for our event planning. Going forward it has been decided that food donations which we take up will now go to the new initiative being headed by Maeven Five to help Pagan Families In Need. Currently there are three Pagan families in the state of Texas she and other volunteers are helping and she hopes to expand this charity operation to perhaps some day be a nationwide network of Pagans helping other Pagans with direct donations of gift cards, food and other household items. In the event that we don’t have a family in our network in need of help, North Texas Food Bank will still be our back up recipient of any items in our food bin when it is full. I had the opportunity to see Tuatha Dea perform live once again at RBC in Dallas Friday night. As always, it was a very powerful and spiritual experience for me. I was elated to see the venue much more full than last time they came to town. We got to visit with the band members and their manager on the patio for awhile before the show began. As always, they are very down to earth people who treat everyone like one of the family. When they performed Bagabi I saw the entire bar really get into it, even folks who were sitting up by the bar who I’m pretty sure had never heard of Tuatha Dea before. I’m sure they’ve heard of them now. 🙂

Our next gathering will be in Arlington on Saturday the 13th. We will be starting with a Temple Lesson on Divination and hopefully we’ll have some people come give us a demonstration on their favorite forms of manifesting the divine for guidance. Later we will be having a New Mead Moon ritual followed by some wonderful music and dancing. Won’t you please come on out and enjoy some of this with us?

Alas, once again this week I have not received any contributions from the tribe but our sister from Mystic Willow Coven, Arachne Crowsinger did share an interesting article with us on the Spirit Of the Sycamore tradition group. Apparently there are a great many benefits to be derived from taking an ice cube and placing it on your Feng Fu point for about 20 minutes each day. Where is your Feng Fu point you ask? Well, I had to ask. I had not preciously heard of it but apparently it’s well know to those who practice acupressure and acupuncture. Find out more about this interesting technique and it’s potential benefits here:
